2024 Nationwide Census: Preparations Are Underway As The 1st Step

To implement of 2024 nationwide population and housing census, there are 4 work programs such as preparation, collecting census, listing statistics, surveying and reporting. Currently, preparation processes are underway as a first step of the work programs.

For the 8 processes for preparation of population census include compiling basic area census,drafting project plan in detail, formation of commission and committee, designing mapping by using GIS technology, questionnaires and handbooks, structuring the census system, procurement of census equipment, collecting pilot census, appointment of census collectors and enumerators, training courses and public awareness. Currently, the first 5 processes are underway, according to Director of General of the Department of Population.

Win Zaw Aung, DG, Department of Population said “The census is expected to begin by the end of March, 2024. There is no problem in preparation process. We collected the census with teachers in 2014. In 2019, it was conducted by young people who could use mobile tablets. In coming 2024, we will collect using GIS technology and mobile tablets. GIS is software that is stored on a mobile tablet and sent to the server in the Headquarters.”

In 2014, the census was conducted with 40 questions and in 2019, 110 questions were asked. The questions for 2024 are being collected and we expected there will be around 50 questions. Globally, the population census is taken at least every 10 years.
