Worshippers from Buenos Aires queued from the early hours on Sunday to adore Saint Cayetano, the patron saint of work. The pilgrimage comes at a time when Argentina is mired in a deep economic crisis that includes one of the highest inflation rates in the world and rapid depreciation of its currency.

According to official figures, the unemployment rate in Argentina hit 7 percent during the first quarter of 2022, but 36 percent of the jobs are in the informal sector, which in most cases does not exceed the poverty line in the South American country. Argentina's third economy minister in a month was sworn in Wednesday, and as his first order of business, Sergio Massa sought to bring down sky-high expectations for his tackling of the country's economic troubles.
