ASEAN-China Workshop: Building up human capital in technology transfer

With the cooperation of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Ministry of Science and Technology, ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (ASEAN COSTI), Myanmar hosted the “ASEAN-China Workshop on Building Up Human Capital in Technology Transfer and Commercialization” at the Lotte hotel in Yangon from 9th to 10th May.

This workshop was held with the aim of developing human resources and capacity building for technology transfer to MSME entrepreneurs in order to commercialize the research results of universities and research institutions from the laboratory level to the market with the ASEAN-China Cooperation Fund-ACCF.

Dr.Thazin Han, Director Department of Research and Innovation (MOST), said "China will clarify their best practices in technology transfers and promoting methods. ASEAN member countries also have their good practices in technology transfers and market promoting. So, experts from 7 countries will share their best practices. We will discuss with ASEAN member states and China to establish the future plans for technology transfer, market promotion and development of human capital."

At the workshop, representatives exchange views on difficulties and solutions of technology transfers between research institutions, universities and MSME entrepreneurs, building human resources for technology transfer and boosting the technology market, ways to strengthen the cooperation between China and ASEAN member states in government and private sectors. They also discussed ways to accelerate technology transfer and cooperation among research institutes, entrepreneurs and universities for entrepreneurial ecosystem using human resource development network and online learning system.

Dr.Thazin Han, Director Department of Research and Innovation (MOST), said "We have 2 main activities- reneweable energy research and chemical research technology including food, applied chemistry, pharmaceuticals and polymer research. By doing this, we believe that we could use the experiences and difficulties of other countries as our strength when we move forward as a force in cooporation with ASEAN. And we could found better ways to transfer technology and promote technology market."

It is learnt that the results of discussions during the workshop were set as future processes.
