Canadian ceremony marks 80th anniversary of the 'Dieppe Raid'

Canadian minister for official languages Ginette Petitpas Taylor led a Canadian ceremony on France's northwest coast Friday to mark the 80th anniversary of the 'Dieppe Raid' during the Second World War.

During the ceremony, Taylor thanked 100-year-old Canadian veteran Gordon Fennell, who took part in the Dieppe Raid, for his services during the war. During the course of this operation, many Canadian soldiers were wounded, 916 were killed, and 1,946 were taken as prisoners of war.
