Communication Services: Restoration of communication channels in quake-hit areas

Due to the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28th March, a total of 6,730 mobile communication stations in earthquake hit areas were damaged, along with the occurrence of communication system failures. As of 6th April, 5,900 of the damaged stations have already been repaired for uninterrupted communication.

Likewise, 60 out of 95 earthquake affected Auto Exchange of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications was already restored as of 5th April. At present, telephone pole wires clearing, cable management and repair works are undertaken in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Sagaing.

Moreover, the maintenance work of Government Cloud System at e-Government Data Center under Information Technology and Cyber Security Department was completed on 5th April and the 247 Cloud Service of the ministries and government organizations were restored.

In addition, the 15 Myanmar posts which were suspended due to the severe earthquake started to reoperate on 30th March. At present, the mobile operators are offering free calls and message services as Corporate Social Responsibility in earthquake hit areas. The free service is set to be provided from 29th March to 10th April 2025.
