Fire crews have 32% containment on the Oak Fire in Mariposa County near Yosemite National Park, officials said. The wildfire has burned more than 18,000 acres since it started last Friday. It is now the largest wildfire in California this year.
It forced more than 6,000 people to evacuate their homes. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for Mariposa County. Firefighters are fighting to control the flames from the ground where bulldozers cannot access. The hot weather and low humidity conditions are making the battle to stop the fire more intense. This is the third wildfire to force evacuations in Mariposa County in the last two weeks.
