To promote trade and facilitate border trade in the border regions of the two countries, the opening ceremony for the Myanmar-Laos Friendship Bridge in Kenglat of Tachilek District in Eastern Shan State was held on Thursday.

At the ceremony, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Zaw Aye stressed that the bridge will serve as a facility to increase trading with China through cross-border trading between Myanmar and Laos, and become a milestone in the history of friendship between the three countries.

Myanmar and Laos have established diplomatic relations for decades since 1955, and the people of the two countries share the same culture and same religion. He also said that the Myanmar-Laos Friendship Bridge will not only bring the neighboring countries closer in terms of geography, but will also bring mutual understanding and cooperation between the people.

Next, Laotian Vice Governor Mr. Sivillay Pankeo of Lon Namtha Province gave a welcome speech. This was followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony, and the guests from Laos toured the Myanmar-Lao Friendship Bridge.
