Illegal trade: Timbers,fuel oil, boats and vehicles seized

Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, illegal trade is effectively prevented and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

On 23 April, the MV Shwemyitta (iron body), carrying 110.313 tonnes of illegal teak and 105.603 tonnes of illegal other timbers in Myanmar waters of the Taninthayi region was seized by officials from the Ayeyawady Naval Region Command.

An Isuzu Giga tractor head with a trailer, was confiscated at the Ywathagyi Dry Port. It was travelling from Mandalay to Yangon, carrying goods including 50 pieces of luggage from China, 1.021 tonnes of illegal teak and 4.874 tonnes of illegal hardwood in Toungoo and Thayawady districts, and 4.942 tonnes of illegal other timbers in Mawlamyine, Kyaikto, and Thaton districts were captured.

Two vehicles carrying six types of goods including 200 sets of used Lenovo laptops from China, at the Thanlwin Bridge (Tayotehla side) checkpoint, and illegal teak weighing 1.248 tonnes and other illegal timbers weighing 13.621 tonnes in Lewe, Pyinmana, and Ottarathiri districts were seized.

On 24 April, a dump truck carrying 135 gallons of illegal diesel and 250 empty yellow jerrycans in Mindon township, and illegal teak weighing 0.586 tonne and other illegal timbers weighing 2.129 tonnes in Minbu and Thayet districts were confiscated. The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that 28 arrests were made on 23 and 24 April, with an estimated value of 1.596 billion Kyats.
