

Animals at the SEA LIFE aquarium in London were being fed iced treats to keep cool on Monday as extreme heat scorched parts of the UK.Penguins were surrounded by icy sandcastles, they could peck away at and were fed frozen fish, while the aquarium's resident octopus, Shakira, played with a bright yellow bucket and spade, an activity which is part of the animal's daily enrichment.
Britain’s first-ever extreme heat warning is in effect for large parts of England. The “red” alert will last throughout Monday and Tuesday when temperatures may reach 40 C for the first time. The highest temperature ever recorded in Britain is 38.7 C, a record set in 2019.
