The first day meeting of the third regular session of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw was held at the meeting hall of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday. Together with 585 Hluttaw representatives, Speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw U Aung Lin Dwe attended the meeting and made a speech.
He expressed honor at being elected Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw for a term of 2.5 years. The Speaker emphasized that the parliament reflects the people’s will, following the 2025 general elections, and that its work aims to build a strong, democratic, and federal union.
He called on the representatives to uphold the constitution, laws, and regulations, to prioritize national and public interest over personal or party interests, and to work collaboratively with respect and understanding.
He stressed that the hluttaw's key responsibilities include passing laws, overseeing the government, appointing officials, and ensuring that legislation benefits the nation and its people.
The Speaker urged all representatives to carry out their duties faithfully, uphold democratic and federal principles, and set a positive example for future generations. He later announced that meetings of hluttaw groups to nominate the Vice Presidents will begin on March 30. Three groups of the elected Pyithu Hluttaw representatives, Amyotha Hluttaw representatives, and Tatmadaw representatives, will each select one Vice President.
After the selections, the names will be submitted to the Speaker for verification and the process of electing the President and Vice Presidents will continue according to the relevant laws and bylaws.
