In the fresh water farming sector, rohu and cat fish are mostly reared and rohu fish are primarily bred for export. Also, market availability and demand of high quality rohu fish is improving, according to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation.
Zaw Lin, Associate Treasurer, Myanmar Fisheries Federation said "At the freshwater fish farming, 3 types of fish such as rohu, cat fish and fresh water pomfret are bred. Rohu fish can be considered as the main fish which is bred for export and 70% of rohu is exported."
It is estimated that the fish market will not be lower than the current price in the next November and December. Rohu fish are exported to foreign countries such as Bangladesh, Dubai and Qatar.
As Myanmar is favour in geographical conditions, rohu fish have been extensively bred. According to the current situation, the breeding areas are ready. If only fish feed, and inputs are available in an affordable price, not only will export-level fish be bred more than current status but the state’s income will also increase.
