Schools Renovated :Over 700 schools completed renovation

According to the State Education Officer U Ba Htwee Sein, over 700 schools out of over1500 schools damaged by cyclonic storm “MOCHA” have been renovated.

Although the basic education schools were damaged by the storm, the officials could manage to open schools in time by arranging temporary school facilities. There are 487 Basic Education High schools, 1,171 Basic Education Middle Schools, 1,535 Basic Education Primary Schools, a total of 3,193 Basic Education schools in Rakhine State.

And there are over 506,000 students attending the schools. Previously, temporary schools, monastery and big houses were arranged for the students to study the lessons in time. Now, there are only a few temporary schools left as most of the basic education schools have already been renovated. It’s expected to finish renovating processes of all damaged basic education schools in Rakhine at the end of the June or early July.

According to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Construction U Wunna Zaw, Myanmar Licensed Contractors Association, Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association, Myanmar Developer Association have assigned construction companies and construction contractors to renovate the damaged basic education schools in Rakhine State.
