Quake Impact in Shan State: Impact of powerful earthquake in Shan State

In Shan State, the disaster has caused extensive damage to various public infrastructures and religious buildings.

Due to the powerful earthquake, the water sources from Yay Htwet Oo Lake in Taunggyi have decreased. Yay Htwet Oo Lake is the major water source supplying water to the residential areas in Taunggyi, covering four wards.

The lake used to provide 4,800 gallons per hour previously, but after the quake, only 2,500 gallons of water are being produced per hour.

Likewise, in Aung Ban of Kalaw District, the historic Shwe Chan Tha Pagoda has sustained significant damage to its stairways, and the pagoda umbrellas have fallen. Currently, clearing work is being carried out in the affected areas, and plans are underway to renovate the damaged pagodas in their original structure.
