China has reopened three China-Myanmar border trade gates on 8th January after shutting down for three years during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Myanmar continues to close the border gate of Shweli due to the increased number of COVID-19 infection in Shweli, according to the Vice-Chairman of Muse Rice Wholesale Centre.

Min Thein, Vice-Chairman, Muse Rice Wholesale Centre said "China reopened China-Myanmar border gates on 8th January but we have refused to reopen the border gate on our side due to the increasing rate of COVID-19 in Shweli. If the border gate from Myanmar side is crowd with thousands of people per day, we are making still plan to control the entrance and exit gates. So, we made the meeting on 7th January and made decisions to continue to close the border gate from our side."

Myanmar has sent an official letter to China that Myanmar will continue to close the border gates because of the increasing rate of COVID-19 infection.
